Sometimes after Bariatric operations, stomach pouch/ tube, stoma (connection between new stomach and small intestine) or Proximal small intestine will start dilating over a period of time. This phenomenon makes effective operation like gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy seem like a failure due to weight regain. Therefore placing a ring over the stomach pouch/tube prevents dilatation and controls the food intake capacity for years together decreasing the chances of weight regain.

The Gastric ring is available as prefabricated and sterile silicon implantable device. It is non adjustable and visible on X-ray. it is to be applied over the stomach pouch/tube while performing gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy. The ring has four closing positions enabling the surgeon to close the ring at 6.5, 7.0,7.5 and 8.0 cm.

Benefits of banded operations are:

  • helps to achieve good weight loss and durable weight maintenance
  • reduces chances of stoma narrowing
  • decreases the chances of dumping and hypoglycemia

Disadvantages:

  • Adds the Cost of ring to surgery
