India is the third most obese country in the world, just after China and the US with more than 135 million people suffering from this chronic and progressive disease. In recent times there have been reports from the United Nations stating that obesity has been on the rise in India. This can lead to an increased risk of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) among young women.

Around 80% of obese women have reported the development of PCOS after they started suffering from obesity. Obese women have a greater chance of menstrual irregularity and associated infertility. The relative risk of PCOS linked infertility increases at BMI of 24 kg / m2 which becomes higher with an increase in BMI.
